OMG – The Presidential Victory Garden under way!

From the New York Times today, it would appear that The First Lady has been watching some YouTube videos with her daughters. She’s only going to turn part of the White House lawns into a vegetable garden. 1100 Sq feet of gardens!
Funnily enough, they’ll be planting organic seeds – 55 varieties of veg (picked by the White House kitchen staff apparently).
Imagine how they’ll need to protect that garden in the coming months – sharpshooters on the White House roof to ‘pick off’ any looters? And how will they deal with rodents? All very surreal!

My, they have a lot of Spinach planted there – and the herb garden looks like they’ll have some pretty nice dishes!

It just bugs me when the left hand distracts while the right hand is doing something else.
In principle, by itself, I think this is a GREAT idea. However, in light of current events, it’s a giant mixed signal. I wonder if any of the seeds are heirloom or are just “organic” GM one? Anybody know?
Stock up. Find a (one day) class at your local university on heirloom seed prep and preservation. Attending our tomorrow.

The article says they are “organic” seeds! I don’t suppose any of the “elitists” would subject themselves to ANY “Genetically Modified”
foods, seeds, meats! They only want the serfs (us) to be feeding on those evils!
I agree…the mixed signals, the lies, all of it are like a B rate movie! Like Mike says…we are following the yellow brick road…or we have stepped thru the looking glass!

I wonder if the family and guest get to move into the white house and help eat all that food when everything fall off the
cliff for the rest of us. For sure I’ll have a garden for as long as they allow it.
Really suprised to see Ms Obama start an old-school row garden that wastes water, offers poor yields, promotes topsoil erosion, and reduces oxygen producing grass.
Its a shame that they didn’t read on modern gardening and install a nice square-foot garden. A square-foot garden uses 20% of the space and 10% of the water of a traditional garden, but with 100% of the yield. Not to mention they look far nicer.
Its much easier to convince Americans to install a 3- or 4-foot box of food than the monstrosity they’re building in the South Lawn. Especially since theres no digging or tilling involved.
Also, the WH garden is not organic as it doen’t meet federal standards for organic. Use of the the term organic by the WH is likely a violation of federal law.
